Vought Team Delivers First Boeing 787 Aft Fuselage
Perot Systems plays key role as Vought’s strategic IT Provider for the 787 Program
It was an historic event for the airlines industry, and certainly a major milestone for Perot Systems Vought account team as Vought Aircraft Industries, Inc. in Charleston, SC recently delivered its first composite aft fuselage sections for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The two aft section fuselages, made entirely of composite material, were built at Voughts new state of the art manufacturing facility using advanced fiber placement technology. The two aft fuselage sections were joined together and then transported across the parking lot to Global Aeronautica, Voughts joint venture with Alenia North America.

The Vought team has been a partner on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner project since September 2005, when the company first announced the new contract award. Perot Systems is Voughts and Global Aeronauticas strategic IT provider for the 787 program. As the business process architect, systems integrator, IT outsourcer and IT program manager, Perot Systems designed and delivered a comprehensive business integration solution for Voughts fabrication and Global Aeronauticas assembly facilities. The Perot Systems project team has been an integral part of the Vought 787 program team since the Charleston site broke ground in December 2004.
The recent milestone was reached literally when the joined aft fuselage Sections 47 and 48, which make up 23% of the airplanes fuselage structure, were marked completed at Vought Aircraft with a ceremony celebrating the facilities first delivery. It was then transported to Global Aeronautica, where it will be wrapped and prepared for shipment. The fuselage will be loaded onto the Boeing Dreamlifter, a modified 747 large cargo freight plane, and delivered to Everett, Washington to become part of the first 787 Dreamliner scheduled to fly in September. Boeing currently has more than 500 confirmed orders for the 787 Dreamliner.
Perot Systems delivered a total business integration solution (consulting, processes, applications and infrastructure) for the Charleston facilities. Perot Systems established the technical infrastructure, the applications to support both back office and manufacturing operations and continues to provide training and support to all the users. Work in late 2005 and 2006 had the technical infrastructure as well as the SAP and MES application up and running for these new businesses and facilities. The SAP application supports Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, Production Planning, Sales & Distribution, Procurement, Inventory Management, Plant Maintenance, Project Systems (project management), Quality Management and Environmental Health and Safety functions. The Technical Infrastructure Team not only supports the SAP Application hosted at Perot Systems Plano Technology center, but supports the Charleston Site infrastructure including the MES application, desktops, network, information security, Wintel and service desk.
Perot Systems deployed a cross-functional team to design and deliver all required business processes and supporting technologies for the facility, including full deployment and integration of PLM (product lifecycle management), ERP, Manufacturing Execution and Back-office Systems. The Perot Systems 787 Business Integration Project team consists of team members from the Consulting Applications Solutions, Commercial Solutions and Infrastructure Solutions business units.
